The default value of RHEL 6 is OnDemand, the CPU operates at the highest clock frequency when the system load is high, and operates at the lowest frequency when the system is idle. Linux supports this ability and offers a variety of power "governors." Different governors implement different heuristics in order to determine how to vary the processor speed depending on the system load and other variables.
